It works by introducing dry ice pellets into a pressurised air stream which is then accelerated to a very high speed to over 300m/s.
On impact with the target surface the blast removes dirt and contamination, leaving machinery dry and abrasion free. As the pellets immediately sublime on impact (turning from solid to a harmless gas), there is no need for secondary waste disposal.
